German Bride Customs

Western bride customs add a joyful mixture of customs and humorous challenges to a woman’s quest into matrimony, from breaking dishes to sawing through logs. Family and friends gather outside the princess’s home to crack numerous ceramic meals to take good fortune to the woman’s marriage in one of the pre-wedding rituals known as Polterabend. The partners is then required to remove all the fragments themselves, reiterating their commitment to working along through any challenges that may arise in the future.

A post-wedding service known as the la rotie in Italy is incredibly physical and profane, but it has a strong connection to the government’s remote tradition. After the bride, a group of associates abduct the bride and groom, who therefore transports them to a cafe or restaurant where they serve the brides with a glass of champagne and chocolates served in a compartment pot. The couple will therefore share a bowl of garlic sauce, which represents married life’s daily closeness.

Although it may seem common to most people to sprinkle grain or petals on newlyweds, in Poland, wheat and barley are also sprinkled on the pair to wish them good health and fecundity. Before the wedding ceremony, the couple is also sprinkled with salt and bread, which symbolize the necessities of life, so that they will always have what they need to survive. Additionally, it is customary for the couple to step on vodka bottles that are displayed at the venue’s “passing gates” to wish them prosperity and abundance.
